Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community Update

As many of you know the club sponsor's a child at the Jhamtse Gatsal Children's Community in the foothills of the Himalayas in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. Below is an update on the happenings at the community:

  • After a summer break, classes have resumed at Jhamtse Gatsal.
  • Jhamtse International Board Member Beezy Bentzen delivered letters to children from sponsors.
  • Dell computer donated a computer lab for the children. Dell employees installed the computers and provided training to the children.
  • Goal Zero donated and installed solar panels to power our computer lab and provide good lighting for our classrooms and dining room.
  • Volunteers from Fettes College in Edinburgh England helped with building projects and taught the children how to do a Ceilidh Dance.
  • The children celebrated the birthday of H.H. 14th Dalai Lama in Lumla where they performed dances for the appreciative crowd.
  • The students are learning carpentry, masonry, construction, gardening, and cob house building during their experiential education time.
  • 14 students graduated from high school this year. They are off to pursue dreams of studying medicine, law, cooking and teaching. They plan to give back to their communities.
