Dear Rebecca and Winchester Rotary,

Happy New Year and warm greetings from Jhamtse Gatsal!

As we take our first steps into 2024, we wish you and your loved ones a year filled with good health, happiness, peace, and prosperity. We hold you and these sentiments for humanity in our daily prayers.

We would also like to express our appreciation for YOUR ongoing generosity and kindness, which inspire Lobsang Phuntsok, the children, and the staff at Jhamtse Gatsal. Thanks to YOU, we exceeded our 2023 year-end fundraising goal for our new Thapsang (the kitchen, dining, and gathering space) at Jhamtse Gatsal. While we still have a long way to go, we are closer thanks to you!

We celebrated Dick Sampson's 46 years of Rotary membership and service to our club and the Rotary Foundation.  It was beautiful to have his family join us for lunch and for Dick to share that the Rotary Four Way Test was a crucial part of building the success of his company and legacy.  Thank you, Dick and your family!

It was wonderful to celebrate the holidays at the Winchester Country Club.  The Winchester High School singers added some wonderful holiday carols.

We celebrated Brian LaPointe's 25 years of service to Rotary.  Congrats!

Happy Holidays Everyone

We had another successful season of giving, as the members and Interact students delivered holiday meals to all the Winchester Housing Authority clients.  Thank you to Linda Doucette for organizing.  The clients are always so appreciative of our visits and meals.

Thanks to this month's volunteers!  Special thanks to Service Member Elizabeth Schreiber for purchasing and organizing the purchase of Bed Comforters and sheet sets as the service members' year-end donation to Mission on Deeds.  As a club, we are making a big impact for Mission of Deeds throughout the year.

Your Rotary Foundation dollars spearhead initiatives encouraging and assisting people who want a better life close to home and beyond our boundaries.

Please donate NOW for 2023 by visiting my.rotary.org, logging in, setting up an account, and contributing to the Annual Fund or the Polio Fund.  The Rotary Club of Winchester is looking for 75% participation from our club.

Please help us reach our goal!

Yours in Rotary, Gail LaRocca, Foundation Chair

Our Rotary Club sponsored Muraco Elementary School repairs last spring for their Gaga Pit.  Gaga is a fast-paced, high-energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players, the better! Dubbed a kinder, gentler version of dodgeball, the game is played with a soft foam ball and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. All the local schools have a pit.

Our club once again supported the Winchester Library with an annual grant for free museum passes for the community.  One way we support our local community.

This past week, we honored our local veterans at lunch.

  • Rotarian Tom Seviney - US Army
  • Rotarian Frank Fantasia - US Army
  • Jeff O’Grady - US Navy
  • Michael Watson - US Army Ranger
  • Michael Lambert-  US Navy

A big thanks to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and staff at the Winchester Country Club for another successful charity golf event.  Your support allows our club to assist local, regional, and international charities with their great work this upcoming year.

We proudly support three local organizations in September with grants for their great work!  The Mission of Deeds, Glen Doughty Memorial Foundation, and YMCA.

Paul Gleason was honored with a Paul Harris Fellow award last week.  He is a multiple Paul Harris award recipient and a long-time club member.   Jack gave a fantastic overview of his lifetime achievements.  Congrats Paul!

His wife, Phyllis, and his sponsor, past President and District Governor Donna D'Agostino, joined him.  Donna and her husband Ed were visiting us from Florida.
